Prague is a beautiful city to spend the Christmas Holidays in. Visitors suggest it resembles the Victorian Christmas scenes that are often seen on cards and other holiday printing. Nicknamed the Golden City, Prague’s famous outdoor Christmas markets are some of the best in the world and shouldn’t be missed if staying in a hotel in Prague. Old Town Square hosts the biggest and most impressive market, but there are casual neighborhood ones along Namesti Miru in Vinohrady. Prague Castle presents a live nativity scene in the 3rd Courtyard on the two days following Christmas. Close to many Prague hotels, there is great ice skating in the center of Prague behind the Estate Theater until January.

Also during the Christmas holidays in Prague there is a horse-drawn carriage tour, and also a tour of Prague by vintage car, with a well-informed guide. Svarak is the Czech word for mulled wine, and you can order it from any of the open-air food stands throughout Old Town. Midnight Mass is a traditional celebration of thousands in Old Town Square, set against the Gothic Tyn Church. It will be cold, but it will be magical. Czech food traditions surrounding the holiday are varied and much different from other cultures. The traditional Christmas Eve dinner is fried carp and potato salad. Desserts of vánočka, braided sweet bread decorated with almonds and raisins, and apple strudel are traditional and have lots of variations. So what are you waiting for? it’s time to book your Christmas in Prague!
