American wine bloggers and wine blogging in particular has caught the attention of the wine industry based on the significant support the first-ever Wine Bloggers Conference has garnered from within the industry. More than twenty companies, associations and wineries have signed on to sponsor the October 24-26 event that will explore the impact blogging is having, best practices associated with wine blogging and the opportunities that accrue to the wine industry by interacting with this growing set of citizen journalists.

Premier Sponsors of the 2008 Wine Blogging Conference currently include Cruvee, Inertia Beverage Group, Sebastiani Vineyard, the Sonoma County Tourism Bureau, Tetrapak, wine.woot and Wine Tasting Network. Media sponsors signed on to help promote the event include Wine Business Publications and Wine Biz Radio.

The Wine Bloggers Conference will take place at the Flamingo Resort in Sonoma County and is being organized by OpenWine Consortium and Zephyr Wine Adventures.

POWERFUL VOICES GATHER IN SONOMA COUNTY
"Bloggers and wine bloggers in particular have become among the most powerful voices in America when it comes to discovering new places, new ideas and to defining the trends and conversations," said Tim Zahner, Director of Public Relations and Marketing at the Sonoma County Tourism Bureau. "Being involved in a conference that not only showcases this powerful emerging media but also Sonoma County is a natural for the Sonoma County Tourism Bureau."

Others signed up to sponsor the Wine Bloggers Conference include Cameron Hughes Wines, Snooth, Sonoma County Vintners Association, Sonoma County Winegrape Commission and Wark Communications. A number of wineries have stepped up to sponsor and take part in the conference including The Wine Group's Boho Vineyards, Killer/Angel Juice and Pinot Evil. Among the other winery sponsors are Bonterra, Clos LaChance Wines, Dark Horse Wine, Lionheart Wines, Small Vines Wines and Twisted Oak.

"The support we've received for this first conference just confirms what we knew about wine blogging," said Joel Vincent, Executive Director of the OpenWine Consortium. "Wine Blogging is now seen as an integral part of the industry and both bloggers and industry members want to understand its implications more fully."

Registration is still open for the Wine Bloggers Conference. Bloggers and industry professionals interested in blogging or working with bloggers are welcome to sign up for the three day conference by going to the Wine Bloggers Conference website.
